Share your favorites tips on Drupal-check.org

0Jérémy16th Jun 2009Web development,

I don’t think I’m the only one, but I really do love cheatsheets principle. Having a document that gathers all the tiny things to know/to do/to check for this or that thing (project, language, website, framework, etc.).

The problem

One of the main major disavantages about those cheatsheets (“antisèches in French, it’s exam time in France!), is the content evolutivity lack. That’s true writing such a document means a lot of work, pertinent starting content, writing and layout/design. No problem on that, this can be planned. But updates is hell!

Another disavantage is, the legitimity and relevance of the cheatsheet. Concret example: Am I, me Jérémy, relevant in writing a Drupal cheatsheet?. I think the answer is yes and no! I’m not a Drupal newbie, but I’m not the best ever Drupal coder (damned) and even if I do have project feedbacks other Drupal users have even more interesting stuff to share.

Solution

Starting from that all thinking heads from Breek had a meeting to design Drupal-check.org.

I had this idea somewhere in my head for a long time now. So when I saw the excellent Symfony Check website, I said to myself (in french) Oula oula, vite vite !

Concept

Concept is slightly different, “tips”, call them as you wish, aren’t/won’t be exclusively from my creation, the key point is to create a database of the best tips submitted by the Drupal community.

This implies 3 principles:

  • Everyone can create tips
  • Everyone can vote for the best tips (more useful ones!)
  • Everyone can improve and/or update a tip

This is a wiki. I think the best thing for a tips database.

There are other features we think are useful, such as bookmarking favorite tips, but you will find out when using the website.

You know enough for now, stop “blabla”, I let you check http://www.drupal-check.org.

Don’t hesitate to add your tips, that is the goal!

NB: One important thing, the goal is absolutely not, in any way to re-create Drupal.org documentation!
